No One Knows The Movie Thirteen Better Than I Do

I may not remember anything I learned in university, but I can quote the whole of my favorite movie

When you’re a kid, it’s normal to watch the same movie again and again. It might be every day for a week, or it might be 3 times a day, but it’s something most kids do. When I received Matilda on VHS for Christmas, I put it on every day until New Year’s; even my parents loved it so they didn’t mind. Unlike most kids though, I didn’t grow out of that phase.

I’m Autistic, and movies often turn out to be my Special Interest™️. Weirdly though, I saw Thirteen a few years after its release and, although I enjoyed it, it didn’t immediately have the impact it eventually had. It was only when I re-watched it a couple of years later, in my late teens that it struck a new chord. Something had changed and from then on, I watched it on a regular basis.

It’s been a little over ten years and that hasn’t changed, I watch Thirteen at least once a month. It’s one of only 2 DVD’s that makes my wife groan when she sees me pop it into the player (the other being Short Term 12).

“Ugh, again?! How many times do you need to watch it?”

And every time, I remind her that I’ll be watching it an infinite number of times in my life. I enjoy it just as much every time, and sometimes I still
