AKA The Tale of the Disappearing Publications

I rarely write about Medium on Medium but sometimes it has to be done because I’ve just noticed something that has irritated me and now you all have to hear about it!

I’m a writer for several publications here on Medium, and though I stick closely with three of them — The Blade & Beyond (my very own publication on self-harm and recovery), Insivible Illness, and Artfully Autistic — I like knowing that I have other options when I have ideas outside of my typical ones.

Today I wrote something that would have been a good fit for at least 4 of the publications that I’m a writer on, so I opened them up in a few tabs to check if any of them had had anything similar lately and who might have a gap for it. What I learned instead is that 2 of them are defunct.

It’s true I hadn’t checked in with them very recently, I depend a bit too much on my Homepage showing me posts that are relevant to me (a mistake I will be making no longer!). They were great publications, with a solid foundation and good values — one of them had even recently taken on another Editor! However, they both simply…stopped posting.
